Celtic Manor Resort
In 2010 The Celtic Manor Resort will stage The Ryder Cup, the world’s third largest sporting event. Host venue of The Celtic Manor Wales Open, the Resort’s 1400 acres of parkland offers the ultimate golfing experience with the choice of three championship golf courses, two large and luxurious clubhouses as well as a state-of-the-art Golf Academy.
With 400 bedrooms in two hotels, two exceptional spas, two state-of-the-art health clubs, tennis courts, shooting, fishing, mountain biking, walking trails, a kids’ club and crèche, and four outstanding restaurants, The Celtic Manor Resort is the ideal place to unwind off the golf course as well as on it.
The new Twenty Ten Course opened for play in July 2007. The first course to be built specifically for The Ryder Cup, it measures a robust 7,493 yards off the back tees and has a par of 71. With water hazards on half of its holes, the course has six signature holes and presents many more memorable tests and risk-and-reward dilemmas.
One of the features of the spectacular new course is its variety with many of the earlier holes having a links-like feel with some long rough and greenside swales, before the middle section of the course reveals the full extent of the lake-lined challenge. A tough finishing stretch culminates in a real sting in the tail at the 18th.
The new Montgomerie Course also opened in July 2007. Designed by Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie, the course features some spectacular tee shots over ravines and dramatic descents to greens.
The Resort’s original Roman Road course, designed by the legendary golf course architect, Robert Trent Jones, provided a beautifully-conditioned playing stage for The Celtic Manor Wales Open from 2005-2007, as well as The All*Star Cup featuring celebrities like Catherine Zeta Jones, Michael Douglas, Ronan Keating and Jodie Kidd.
All three courses at The Celtic Manor Resort offer a fantastic challenge and the trio are all very different in character, adding up to one of the most complete golfing destinations in Europe.
