Cottrell Park Golf Club
Cottrell Park is a majestic setting for golf and is home to two Championship 18 hole courses, both of which are situated in historic parkland. Each course offers a different challenge to all categories of golfer. The Mackintosh is a parkland course, scores of beautiful 300 year old trees, amazing views and playing to USGA Greens. The Button Gwinnett Course, which requires accuracy rather than length, boasts several small lakes with a fantastic new lake on the finishing hole. The views sweeping across the Vale and onwards to the Brecon Beacons are breathtaking and again playing to USGA Greens all assist for a great day out.
Other facilities at Cottrell include an all weather floodlit driving range, two putting greens, practice area, fully stocked golf professional shop and a delightful stone built clubhouse with exposed wooden beams, open fireplace and flagstone floor. The perfect place in which to relax after your game of golf.
History
During the past centuries, several families who have played important roles in the history of Great Britain and North America resided at Cottrell, including the Merricks, the Buttons, the Gwinnetts, the Tylers, and the Mackintosh of Mackintosh. A notable member of the Gwinnett family was Button Gwinnett, who was one of the fifty-six men that assembled at Philadelphia in 1776 to sign the Declaration of Independence and examples of his signature have been sold for $150,000, making it one of the most valuable in the world.
