Welsh Golf Breaks on Gower

Golf on Gower

Golf on Gower is a group of quality clubs and hotels in a compact cluster offering golf breaks in Britain’s first “Area of Outstanding natural beauty”. It’s no surprise that dramatic views over coast and rural landscape are in abundance with a mix of Links / heath and parkland courses within just a few miles of each other. All offer challenging Par 71 /72 courses and measure over 6000 yards.

Accommodation included is based in either the “Dragon” city centre hotel with all its added attractions or the Winston hotel, located in the heart of Gower and just 4 miles from the most distant venue. Both offer leisure facilities and the highest levels of service.

Simply select the courses you wish to play and your hotel preference.

Mumbles Mile

The Mumbles mile package is named after the historic mumbles seafront collection of 26 pubs, where many ”brave souls” fell by the wayside attempting the age old tradition of a drink in each one! While not all the pubs survive today, you are left with a fine selection of restaurants, bars, shops and, of course, the welsh home of Catherine Zeta Jones along classic mumbles seafront.

The accommodation is based at the Carlton Hotel, within easy distance of all mumbles attractions, yet proving a comfortable base for the travelling golfer. The courses average less than 7 miles drive time and offer a mix of links/heath and parkland, all offering a real challenge of Par 71/72 and over 6000yds.

Simply select the courses you wish to play and your hotel preference.

Located 8 miles west of Swansea in the Gower Peninsula, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The holes are routed over classically undulating and tumbling linksland, full of hummocks, hillocks and hollows and pocked with dunes large and small; in sum, exactly what we might hope to find beside the shore. Yet this exceptional terrain is not beside the shore - It is two hundred feet above it.

Fairwood Park is one of the most challenging on Gower, and at 6,700 yards it is certainly the longest.
Ultimately it’s the bewildering array of trees lining each fairway that make Fairwood a first class parkland course and it’s also these very same trees that continually lie in wait, ready to punish the wayward golfer. Add a plethora of lakes and strategically placed bunkers into the equation and you’ll begin to understand why so many visitors keep coming back to enjoy the delights of Fairwood Park.

The planning, designing and layout of the course were entrusted to Messrs H S Colt and Harries, the leading golf architects of the day. The original layout established all the important features and it is to the credit of the architects that the course has remained virtually unchanged to this day. The course is laid out on the high ground of Clyne Common about three to four hundred feet above sea level. The turf is of the moorland type, although gradually changing in character over the years as a result of fertilisation. There are, owing to the undulating ground, many natural hazards, apart from the large number of bunkers. There is also gorse and bracken in profusion, with some strategically planted trees.

The large greens are generally in excellent condition. The course offers a challenging test of golf to all handicap levels at 6323 yards, par 70 sss72. The expansive course consists of two separate loops of nine holes - virtually a figure of 8 - with the result that there is no crossing and a minimum of congestion. The 1st and 10th tees and the 9th and 18th greens are conveniently situated in front of the Club House.

Minutes from the M4 and Swansea, yet located on the stunning Gower Peninsula, the Gower Golf Club offers a whole host of attractions for golfers and non-golfers alike. The facilities include an 18 hole golf course set on rolling countryside , practice and tuition facilities, wedding suite (with civil licence), overnight accommodation and the "Beacons" restaurant.

The 18 hole golf course is the backdrop for all the activities at Gower. It was designed by the highly respected Donald Steel and has been overlaid onto rolling countryside to create a spectacular challenge utilising every available feature. It has been the foundation of the enthusiastic & committed members club.

Located in the heart of Swansea's vibrant city centre, The Dragon Hotel is the perfect base for golfers and non-golfers alike.
